16:16, 01 September 2011
Kent rower Dan Ritchie won a silver medal at the world championships in Slovenia on Thursday.
Ritchie, from Herne Bay, was stroke in the Great Britain crew which finished second behind Germany in the final of the men's eight.
Their strong performance on Lake Bled has secured the GB crew a place at next year's Olympics and Ritchie said he felt they could turn the tables on Germany in London, saying: "Don't underestimate the power of the home crowd."
Germany started powerfully in the final and were more than two seconds ahead at halfway.
GB were in fourth with Canada and Australia ahead of them, but then came the GB second-half push that catapulted them up to second place.
The GB crew came home in 5mins 30.83secs, with Germany recording 5:28.81 and Canada third in 5:31.18.
