Designer babies and a black prime minster up for debate
00:00, 22 January 2009
Designer babies, sex before marriage and whether Britain would elect a black prime minister - all these topics came under discussion in Canterbury.
The setting was the Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys sports hall and the occasion was filming of The Big Questions, BBC1’s flagship religious and ethical talk show hosted by Nicky Campbell.
Topics of debate included designer babies, sex before marriage and whether Britain would elect a black prime minister.
The guests were Dr Raj Pandit Sharma, from the Hindu Council of Great Britain, writer and broadcaster Cristina Odone, psychologist Angela Mutanda and Jonathan Bartley, director of the religious think tank Ekklesia.
Langton pupil Tom Dobin said: “I got to contribute to the debate as I think sex education should be introduced earlier because of the influence of the internet and its tendency to show the pernicious side of sex.”
The Big Questions returns to the Langton on April 5, July 5 and September 20. Email ken.moffat@virgin.net if you would like to be in the audience.
