First Kentish Ale and Cider Festival at the Kings Hall, Herne Bay, celebrates local music
00:00, 22 June 2013
Ale lovers will not just get a taste for the county’s breweries at the first Kentish Real Ale and Cider Festival at the Kings Hall.
They will also get a flavour for Herne Bay’s music scene as acts exclusively from the town put on a show.
The nine performers include well-known scenesters the Doctorates and the Fruit Group? as well as emerging talents like Ashley Crane and Mitch Emery.
Sawsound – who have one member from Herne Bay – have been getting airtime on Radio 1, having built a following in Leeds.
Also performing over the two days will be Mostly Brian, Spex, Those Distant Voices and Wireless.
The acts have been organised by Herne Bay Music, a group promoting music from the town, which launched earlier this year.
Ales and ciders will come from breweries Broomfield Orchard, Wantsum, Nelson, Whitstable, Goody and Biddenden.
Festival organiser Rose O’Brien said: “This is our first one so we don’t know how busy it will be.
“We hope to run it once or twice a year if it is successful.
“Hopefully it will be a nice and relaxed weekend.”
Beer lovers will get a wirstband at the festival, meaning they can come and go throughout the day as they please.
The Kentish Real Ale and Cider Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23. Admission £4.50 on Saturday, £3.50 on Sunday. Call 01227 374188.
