Areas across the county could see flooding later after heavy rains hit over the weekend.

Environment Agency (EA) staff were out in Kent yesterday and today to clear drain blockages and monitoring the situation.

Of particular concern - with a red warning - are Plucks Gutter and Grove Ferry near Canterbury, where there are fears of riverside properties flooding.

The flood warning notes spring tides along the Tidal River Stour has combined with heavy rainfall to spark the flooding alert.

After a high tide at 3am this morning, tides are expected to subside for the rest of Monday.

However the red alert states: "This Flood Warning is likely to remain in force overnight Sunday and into Monday and possibly beyond into Tuesday.

"Our incident response staff are operating Stonar Cut and are monitoring the situation closely."

Further up the Tidal Stour - around East Stourmouth and Monkton - an amber warning "will probably be in force for several days and this message will be updated tomorrow morning, February 1.

"The forecast if for largely dry weather today and on Monday. Two further systems are set to arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday."

Currently, roads to the Stour Marshes are being impacted by the weekend's heavy rain.

On the Isle of Sheppey, the EA offers a more positive outlook despite another amber warning.

Regarding the area around Warden Bay, the agency says, "We do not forecast the situation to deteriorate any further" but does warn people to "remain aware of your local situation."

In the Ashford borough - both in Wye and around the town of Ashford - a flood warning is in place due to the Stour, however the situation is expected to benefit from today's continuing dry weather.

Likewise along the Lower River Medway near Maidstone, and the River Beult near Staplehurst and Headcorn, flooding is expected to subside with no property flooding expected.

While no properties are expected to flood along the River Darent from Westerham to Dartford, the EA does strike a concerned tone in the area's weather warning.

Noting already high river levels along the Darent, it states: "Levels remain high at Hawley. Further rainfall is expected over the next five days.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Property flooding is not expected at this time."
