A gang of men asked a man for the time before hitting him over the head and stealing his wallet and bag.

The man, who is in his 40s, was outside The Cricketers in St Peter's Street, Canterbury, at between 5.50pm and 6.10pm on Sunday, when seven or eight men approached him.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack.

PC Kayleigh Dodd said: "The group of men went towards St Margaret’s Street and are believed to have crossed the High Street into Mercery Lane where they split up.

"Two men were later arrested in Palace Street."

The men in the group are described as having Irish accents.

One is described as aged around 18 and was wearing grey bottoms and no top.

A second was described as chubby and was wearing blue jeans and a blue long-sleeved top.

A third man was described as having brown hair and was wearing blue jeans and a green top.

An 18-year-old man from Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire and a 19-year-old man from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and have been bailed until October 12 while inquiries continue.
