Gang used catapult to collect on drug debt at Canterbury flat - Logan Foster jailed for four years

00:01, 20 April 2016

Three men burst into a Canterbury flat armed with a catapult to collect an outstanding drugs debt, a court has heard.

The victim and others in his home were assaulted and struck with the weapon three times before his dog was kicked.

Now, Prosecutor Simon Taylor told Canterbury Crown Court that the victim feared his home would be bombed after reporting the incident to police.

One of the men, 22-year-old Logan Foster, of New Ruttington Lane, has been jailed for four and a half years after admitting aggravated burglary and assault.

'A catapult was present during this incident and used as a weapon and people who try to take the law into their own hands commit serious offences and can expect nothing but serious punishment' - Judge Adele Williams

Mr Taylor said the incident took place at 4pm on December 14 last year when the three forced their way inside the ground-floor flat in Craddock Road, Canterbury.

He said one of the men was armed with a catapult and during the assault the victim’s dog was kicked.

After the attack the three told the man that if he didn’t find another £150 “we are going to kill you if you haven’t got the money.

The prosecutor added that the attack was “over a cannabis debt.”

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the victim claimed he and his dog had been left frightened by the incident and both he and his partner had suffered flashbacks.

He said he now shouts out in his sleep and suffers from depression, claiming he was told if the attackers went to jail “they will get people to bomb our flat”.

Peter Alcock, defending said there was no suggestion that the threats had been made by Foster, who suffers from ADHD and epilepsy.

Foster pleaded guilty to the offences after asking Judge Adele Williams for an indication of the likely length of the jail sentence.

She told him: “You took part in a very serious offence where you took part what was in effect a revenge attack or the enforcement of a drugs debt.

“A catapult was present during this incident and used as a weapon and people who try to take the law into their own hands commit serious offences and can expect nothing but serious punishment.”
