Canterbury man arrested after 'knifeman' spotted in high street

Fears someone was armed with a knife sparked a police helicopter search of Canterbury city centre.

Officers were called to the High Street at about midnight last night after receiving reports a group of people were causing a disturbance.

A man, who matched the description of one of the suspects, was found hiding on the roof of a building in Orange Street at about 1am.

The 21-year-old from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of affray.

There were no reported injuries, but investigations are continuing.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to call them on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/133587/19.
