Marc Traylor, who suffered serious injuries in the incident in 2015 at the family home in Hersden, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

The jury is being invited to bring in a special not guilty verdict that if they concluded he was insane at the time.

Kitanna, now 18, told how after going to bed she woke up when her bedroom light was turned on.

She said: “I rolled over and there’s my dad with the purple big kitchen knife and the little black kitchen knife.

“I screamed and somehow ended up from being one side of my bed to being underneath..

"He doesn’t come at me with knives but I am screaming out of fear of my dad standing at the door with knives.”

She told how Traylor’s father – who lived nearby – was called to try to talk with his son who had barricaded himself in the bedroom.

Kitanna added: “Grandad’s talking to dad and he keeps picking up a pillow case saying: ‘Put the knives in here Marc... put the knives in here.’

“And dad keeps smiling and just of like, it’s not like a happy smile or a jovial smile. It’s like a... I can’t really explain... like a devilish... evil... chilling thing, considering the situation.”

Kitanna said that during one conversation her father told her: “I want to end it’

She told the jury how police officers then arrived and her grandfather urges the teenager to move closer to her father so officers could see she was OK.

“But I can’t. I can’t and granddad asked why... ’cuz he’s got knives. And I’m scared and he’s got knives and granddad said: ‘There’s no need to be afraid, he’s your dad.’, “ she added.

As officers tried to taser Traylor he is alleged to have begun stabbing his daughter.

She recalled: “I don’t know what happened there but either way, it ended up with him flying across the room in a blur and stabbing me.

“I’ve screamed and then I’m on the floor screaming: ‘He’s stabbing me... he’s stabbing me’. I think it was in the chest first..

“I’m kind of curled up into a ball screaming: ’He’s stabbing me. He’s stabbed me’ and kicking out with my legs.”

She was asked if she recalled her father being shot and replied: “Apparently he’s been shot at some point. I don’t remember any of that as it happens.”

She was asked if she recalled the actions of the police officer and replied: “It’s just a blur. He was just a blur. I don’t remember any words. I just know there was an officer.

“I vaguely remember another police officer on the landing and I think that’s how I got down the stairs.

“But the only person I really remember is the face throughout the whole thing is my granddad.”

She was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford before being transferred to London’s King’s College Hospital.

The jury heard how she had received numerous stab wounds to her abdomen and chest, one of which cut her liver, and treated for cuts to her wrist, leg, hip and arm.

Her father received gunshot wounds to his neck, jaw and abdomen and needed a metal plate in his jaw.

The court heard as a result of his injuries he had suffered “considerable cognitive damage” and is now unable to walk, eat, drink or dress independently...and has no memory of the incident.

The trial continues.
