Homes near Canterbury and in Thanet without water due to technical issues
20:46, 23 February 2024
Homes have been left without water this evening.
Residents in villages surrounding Canterbury and areas in Thanet are experiencing a loss of water supply due to “technical issues” at Wingham Water Supply Works.
The supply problems are in Adisham, Ash, Aylesham, Bekesbourne, Bridge, Wingham, Ramsgate and Monkton.
Southern Water has opened two bottled water stations, one in New Dover Road Park and Ride, Canterbury and one at Aylesham Leisure Centre.
These stations will remain open until 10pm tonight.
A bottled water delivery service is also being run by the water company through its priority services register.
Southern Water apologised for the issues via its website this evening: “Our teams are continuing to work to resolve issues at Wingham Water Supply Works.
“We’re sorry customers may be experiencing a loss of supply or low pressure due to technical issues at our supply works.
“This is due to technical issues at our Wingham Water Supply Works in our water treatment process and turbidity, which means the water is more difficult to treat and put into supply.”
The firm is urging people who should have received a bottled water delivery and have not to call 0330 303 0368.
