Investigation into death of backpacker
00:00, 31 January 2002
THE death in Thailand of a backpacker from Kent is to be investigated by a coroner. Former Canterbury High School pupil Peter Hoddinott, 24, from Wingham, died on December 18 after playing pool, drinking two pints and visiting an all-night market to buy a Christmas present for his mother.
Coroner's officer David Miller said the death had been reported to coroner Rebecca Cobb and that an inquest would be held.
A date has not been set as reports are still awaited from the Thai authorities. A funeral service and burial was held at Aylesham cemetery on January 17.
Mr Hoddinott, only son of Angela and Terry Hoddinott, lived for many years at Woolage Green before moving to Wingham three years ago to be nearer his job at his father's carpentry business.
