Kebab shop worker from Gillingham banned from driving after being found with cannabis in system

A kebab house worker has been banned from the road after being stopped by police with cannabis in his system.

Aleksandar Allessandrov, was spotted driving a Toyota Yaris in Gillingham during the early hours of one morning and as police neared his car, they smelt cannabis so pulled him over.

They thought he might be under the influence of drugs so carried out a drugs swipe on him which proved positive.

The 33-year-old was arrested and taken to the police station and more samples revealed he was over the drug-drive limit for cannabis.

He was charged with the offence and admitted it when he appeared at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on January 25.

The court heard Allessandrov who used to live in Merton Lane, Canterbury but is now living above the kebab shop he works at in Watling Street, Gillingham, was pulled over in Holmside, Gillingham, during the early hours of July 6 last year.

When tested, Allessandrov was found to have 2.3 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood, the legal limit is two micrograms.

Dylan Bradshaw prosecuting said: "It was about 12.40am and officers smelt cannabis and stopped him because of the condition of his driving.

"He was co-operative throughout and at the police station."

District Judge Justin Barron banned Allessandrov from driving for 12 months and fined him £300 and ordered he pay a victim surcharge of £120 and £85 costs.

The judge also warned Allessandrov to not make any attempt to drive while he was banned.
