Kent's biggest theatre has extended its closure by two more months as the coronavirus crisis continues to grip the country.

Bosses from the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury have today announced all of its shows up to and including Monday, June 22, will not be taking place.

This means that popular comedians John Bishop, Rich Hall, Jack Dee and Romesh Ranganathan will no longer be performing at the city centre venue.

Marlowe chief executive Deborah Shaw said: “We would like to reassure customers that regardless of whether your show is cancelled or rescheduled, you will be entitled to a credit note or refund.

“Our team are working closely with producers and promoters to determine which shows can be rescheduled for a future date. As you can imagine, this is a complex task that we are working to resolve as soon as possible.

“We appreciate your patience and we look forward to the time when we can welcome you back into our theatre.”

Ms Shaw is also urging customers not to call the box office. Instead, she says they should wait to be contacted over the next fortnight with information about their bookings.

This comes just eight days after it was announced that the building would shut until April 17.

Meanwhile, several showings of Mammia Mia! are still set to go ahead in the days after the closure is scheduled to end.

The ABBA-themed musical is set to begin its two-week run of performances at the venue on Tuesday, June 23.
