Police surrounded after fight in Canterbury

Police called to a fight in Canterbury were allegedly surrounded by a group of youths after finding themselves outnumbered.

When back up was sent to the scene, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and found to be in possession of a large knife.

British Transport Police revealed details of the incident, which took place in Longport just before 8pm yesterday, on social media.

They tweeted: "Officers were on patrol when they spotted a fight.

"As they got out to intervene one male threw a bag in a bush in an attempt to hide it, he was searched and found him possession of the knife.

"Officers were then outnumbered by the group of youths who surrounded them and had to call for assistance. Thankfully back up arrived quickly."

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
