Lockdown fines dished out as women 'attacked' at Canterbury street gathering

Lockdown fines were dished out at a street gathering after police were called to reports two women had been attacked.
Officers were sent to St Martin's Road, Canterbury, at 12.55am on Friday, where witnesses say there were as many as 20 people in the street.
A resident told KentOnline: "This was a very frightening experience.
"The police had multiple officers on the scene - they clearly took matters seriously."
When officers arrived, they were told that two women had been assaulted.
Fines of £200 were dished out to those flouting lockdown rules by participating in a gathering of more than two people.
A police spokesman said: "Two people were issued with fixed penalty notices for breaching government rules to stop the spread of Covid-19.
"An investigation into the alleged assaults is ongoing."
