Plans have been revealed for a new luxury riverside glamping site in a secluded location - offering tourists "peace and quiet under dark skies".
The scheme is being proposed is being planned on the banks of the Stour near Canterbury where leisure boat owners moor their craft and there are fishing and shooting opportunities.
The owners of the site at the Port Farm Marina, off Island Road at Upstreet, have applied for planning permission for four luxury camping pods and 15 camping pitches. They say the grassy bank is in a "low risk" flood zone area.
Also proposed is a new "welfare" building for both boat owners and campers which bosses say would address the lack of facilities at the marina.
It would offer a communal lounge and kitchen area, a caretaker’s office, an information centre, a toilet and two shower rooms, a cycle store and an outside decking area.
The appearance of the single-storey building would also be designed with natural materials to fit in with the surrounding landscape.
The company, which runs the marina, says it is an excellent location for a "low impact" campsite because of its quiet, secluded position, "allowing visitors to experience the peace and quiet under the dark skies."
The four camping pods would be located on the land to the south of the railway line.
"They will provide a unique environmentally focused tourism facility that will allow guests to experience the natural surroundings and beauty of the site," says the applicant.
Bosses also believe the application complies with a variety of planning policies, particularly those which support the rural economy.
The marina was established in the early 1960s to provide a safe location for private boat owners on the Stour and currently has 50 moorings.
Port Farm Marina Ltd was founded in April 2021 and appointed to take over the formal management of the member-only mooring business. This includes looking after the general maintenance of all grounds and structures, as well as managing site health and safety.
