A man has been jailed after he wielded a samurai sword in a high street following a pub confrontation.

Described by police as "terrifying" incident, officers arrested Ezra Medley-Feehan in St Peter's Street, Canterbury, in February.

The 36-year-old, who lives in the same street, was abusive to customers at a pub before heading out into the high street with a samurai sword.

When in the street, the weapon was seen to be partly pulled from its cover.

Officers arrived and Medley-Feehan was arrested inside the pub and the sword was recovered nearby.

Medley-Feehan appeared at Canterbury Crown Court last week, pleading guilty to possession of a blade, and was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.

Investigating officer PC Victoria Minter said: "This incident would have been terrifying for anyone who saw Medley-Feehan with the sword.

"Kent Police has a zero tolerance approach to knife crime and I hope this sentence sends out the message that those caught with such weapons will receive immediate custodial terms."
