A person hit by a train last night has died from their injuries, operator Southeastern has revealed.
The train company said it had been a 'very sad night' following the incident between Ramsgate and Canterbury West.
A witness said a car appeared to have been parked near to the track.
The incident took place just after 8pm, with the line remaining closed until after midnight.
Buses were laid on to help get stranded passengers home.
Southeastern said the incident is still affecting some services this morning with shorter trains running from Ashford to Charing Cross and Dover to Victoria.
In a social media message to customers, it said: "Unfortunately someone died on the railway lines, this resulted in trains and crew being displaced.
"A very sad evening for some including those on the train involved."
