Fight against dog poo in Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham wins support
12:02, 28 October 2013
You are just as furious about the blight of dog poo on our streets as Scoop The Dog.
Messages of support have come flooding in for the courageous canine’s Pick Up The Poo campaign.
Our determined dog wants to help clean up our pavements, parks and play areas and leave them faeces-free.
He is sick of irresponsible dog owners who let their pets leave a mess and then do not clean it up.
Readers have been telling us about dog poo grotspots throughout the district.
Scoop’s push to banish the blight of foul-smelling faeces has been backed by Canterbury City Council.
Executive member for the environment Cllr Rosemary Doyle (Con) said: “We wholeheartedly support the campaign.
“Dog fouling is anti-social and unhygienic and can cause many serious health problems.
“If dog owners do not clean up after their pets, then the council and its contractors Serco have to do it.
“The Fido dog poo machine cost £19,000 to buy and a further £10,000 a year to operate and we go all over the district, tackling problems that are reported to us and cleaning parks and gardens.
“Obviously when times are tight financially we would rather not be spending this money, and have a nice clean district too, so we hope your campaign will be successful in reducing the problem.”
If you know a place where dogs do their business and it is not cleaned up regularly, let Scoop know.
