A 22-year-old stands to pick up a million dollar prize if he wins a televised poker tournament.

James Sudworth, from Molash, near Canterbury, has already won more than £200,000 in cash and prizes in just two years.

If he plays his cards right at the Ladbrokes Poker Million he could be walking away with a $1,000,000 pay cheque.

James won £25,000 on Monday in Ladbrokes online poker festival and has also won a Caribbean cruise trip and poker trips to Madrid and Ireland.

To celebrate his first major win of £12,000, James used some of his prize money to help his mother Jasmine study speech therapy at university.

James, who became a poker pro two years ago, said: “I was studying media studies at A-level and then got a job as a bar manager but was introduced to poker one night in my local.

“It’s such fun playing. I never looked back.

“My parents weren’t initially pleased with my career choice, but seeing how dedicated I am and how much I won from a recent trip in Vegas, they’ve come around slightly.”

Mr Sudworth offered some advice to people who want to follow his success.

He said: “Only play with an amount you can afford to lose.

“I started around the £10 mark, which is cheaper than an average night out for me.”
