15:17, 26 June 2023
Police are looking to track down a member of the public who stopped a sexual assault at a train station.
A man has been arrested after a passerby stepped in when he saw a man groping a woman in Canterbury.
The incident took place at Canterbury West station, where the victim was waiting for a train just before 7pm on Tuesday, June 13.
While waiting, she was approached by a man who began talking to her.
She then sat on a bench on platform one before the man sat down beside her and sexually assaulted her.
Thankfully, the as-yet anonymous member of the public spotted the assault taking place and intervened to stop it going further.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said that officers had not been able to speak to the person, and are keen to identify them as they may have information that could be crucial to their investigation.
“A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries,” he added.
Witnesses, or anyone with information, can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 645 of 13 June.
