A man has been flown to hospital after collapsing into a pond in his back garden in Herne Bay this morning.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to Studd Hill at about 10.40am.

Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman Alan Bradford said that fire crews arrived and pulled the 76-year-old man out of the pond.

He has been taken to hospital, where he remains in intensive care. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Kent Police spokesman Jon Green said: "Police were called by the ambulance to a report of an elderly man who had collapsed in the back garden of a private address in the Studd Hill area.

"We understand he has been airlifted to hospital where he is in intensive care."
