Faversham-based Happy Endings Rescue Centre in battle to save sight of puppy Belle abandoned in park
00:01, 19 December 2013
A Faversham animal charity is battling to save the sight of a terrified puppy left abandoned in a park by heartless owners.
The 12-week-old pup, who rescuers have called Belle, is now in the care of Happy Endings Rescue Centre.
Belle appears blind in both eyes and the charity say whoever abandon her knew the young Labrador-cross puppy would be terrified and freezing.
Happy Endings co-founder Chris Johns said: "We cannot understand how someone could just leave an animal like this.
"Being blind, she would not have made it to the park by herself. Someone knows how she got there."
Belle, who was either born blind or has suffered a severe head trauma, now needs specialist veterinary treatment at the Royal Veterinary College.
"We were told she should be put-to-sleep, but she has so much love and life to give..." - Happy Endings co-founder Chris Johns
Chris said: "We cannot tell if she is in pain, or how serious the damage is to her eyes. It's not something that can be treated locally and we have been told to get specialist help.
"However this treatment is going to cost thousands of pounds and this is money we just don't have."
The charity is now launching Belle's Appeal and hope the public will help them raise the cash for Belle.
Chris added: "We were told she should be put-to-sleep, but she has so much love and life to give.
"It's clear she has been around people as she is friendly and responds to your voice.
"With the right care and rehabilitation she could have a full, healthy life.
"It's only a week to Christmas we would love to be able to give Belle a much happier start to 2014."
If you can help Belle, phone Happy Endings Rescue Centre on 01795 530371.
