Network Rail is currently carrying out maintenance and other associated works on the level-crossing along the road.

There is a set diversion in place, with motorists having to drive another 2.6km, adding another seven minutes onto their journey.

Residents nearby have been sent notices explaining why the planned railway improvements will be taking place.

"This work will involve vegetation clearance around the level crossing using chainsaws and clippers," it states.

"Under our licence conditions we are contractually obliged to work at times that cause the least disruption to train services.

"This means our work will often happen during the night and at weekends.

"The equipment we use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but we will make every effort to minimise any unnecessary noise."

Network Rail has been approached for a comment.
