Roadworks on A28 bottleneck
00:00, 27 March 2002
TRAFFIC congestion on the A28 into Canterbury, already a daily occurrence, will be even more of an ordeal during April. Resurfacing work costing £200,000 begins at Wincheap, Canterbury, on the Tuesday after Easter for four weeks.
Between Simmonds Road and Woodville Close traffic will be one-way - out of the city - only.
Traffic travelling into the Canterbury will be diverted off the A28 via Ten Perch Road, Cow Lane and Simmonds Road. Residents may be asked to park their vehicles away from the area being worked on and short term road closures will operate as the work passes side turnings.
Cllr Sarah Hohler, Kent County Council's cabinet member for strategic planning, said: "The A28 into Canterbury has deteriorated and it is necessary to undertake full resurfacing to provide continuing life for the main road. Benefits will be reaped at the end of the work with a strengthened road and much quieter surface."
