Canterbury man charged after alleged theft from Sainsbury’s Local in St Dunstan’s Street

A man has been charged after a Sainsbury’s store was reportedly robbed and a member of staff assaulted.
John Gould, of Whitstable Road, Canterbury, was arrested after officers were called to an alleged shoplifting incident at the St Dunstan’s Street Sainsbury’s Local.
When police arrived at the scene at 10pm on Sunday, they were informed two men were allegedly working together to steal items before one of them assaulted a shop worker.
Following inquiries at the scene, a man was arrested nearby.
Gould, 20, has now been charged with theft, assault, possession of a knife, possession of cannabis and criminal damage.
He has been bailed to appear before Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 2.
