ABOUT 800 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and their helpers gathered in Canterbury’s Dane John Gardens for their annual St George’s Day parade.

They came from the Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay and after lining up in the park they walked through the city centre to the Cathedral.

At the Buttermarket, deputy district commissioner Mick Hills took the salute before the parade moved into the Cathedral for a non-denominational service in which those taking part renewed their promises.

The service was also attended by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Pat Todd and his wife Barbara.
