Plans to redevelop the former Herne Bay Golf Club have finally been submitted to the council - but they do not include building a new grammar school.
Developer Mark Quinn said the multi-million scheme would see new homes, shops, pubs, and leisure facilities being built, bringing up to £10 million each year to the local economy.
But for the moment he said that the two focal points of the development would include a sports hub for four sports, along with a residential care home for the elderly.
He said: “We haven’t included a new school on the site proposals because Barton Court is still going through its consultation process with parents. We don’t want to prejudge that consultation.”
But Mr Quinn didn’t rule out changing the plans to include a new grammar school. He said: “If we need to add a school to the plans we can do, it will be a simple to include.
“But for the moment a care home will be on the site.”
The site has remained unused since the golf club went into administration and was sold three years ago.
There had been plans to build a major supermarket on the site, but Sainsbury’s withdrew their interest last year.
Since then Mr Quinn has been looking for a mixed development, which could see up to 570 homes being built.
He added: “This mixed development could be a massive boost for the area and generate hundreds of jobs.
“We’re taking something in the economy that was used very little for very few people. It will have massive benefits for Herne Bay.
“It will really give people something to shout about and something they can be proud of. So we want people to show their support to make this happen.”
