A teenager suffered a fractured cheekbone after being attacked by three men, one of them carrying a road sign.

The 19-year-old was walking with a friend along Rhodaus Town, outside the Canterbury Christ Church University library Augustine House, at around 1.30am on Saturday when they were approached by three men.

DC Brigitte Collard said: "One of the group told them they were searching for a person following a dispute at a nearby bar.

"The same man then went on to assault another person, unknown to the victim, who was standing nearby.

"He was knocked to the floor and then repeatedly kicked."

Officers are examining footage from CCTV cameras in the area and are appealing to anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

DC Collard said: "This would have been a fairly busy time of the morning with lots of people leaving bars and heading home.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident and are also very keen to hear from the second person who is reported to have also been assaulted.

"One of the men in the group may have been involved in an earlier incident and is likely to have had blood on his face and clothing.

"It appears he was also carrying a rectangular red and white road sign when the victim was approached, but this was not used in the assault."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/33053/16.
