Pint prices are nowhere near where they used to be, and new statistics show how a particular place in Kent is charging more than almost anywhere else in the UK.

Research has revealed that, on average, Canterbury is the second most expensive town or city to buy a pub pint.

With a hefty fee of £4.80, the historic city is ranked in a solid second place ahead of Cambridge, which has an average of £4.65.

Canterbury falls just shy of the £5 price in London - which unsurprisingly claims the title of being the most costly place for a drink.

Elsewhere in Kent, Sevenoaks makes an appearance in the top five - with its £4.50 pint price tying with the likes of Edinburgh and Bristol.

At the other end of the spectrum, towns and cities in the Midlands and up north offer much more accommodating prices, where a round won't instantly hit double figures.

Analysis by money.co.uk reveals that Telford, in Shropshire, is the cheapest place for a pint.

The average charge comes in at just £2 - meaning you could buy two and a half pints in Telford for almost the same price those in Canterbury will pay for one.

Other areas on the super cheap leaderboard are Hartlepool, Scarborough and Stevenage.

In the UK as a whole, there are about 47,000 pubs to serve the population of 66 million.
