Top decathlete to present awards

INTERNATIONAL decathlete Darren Hatton will be presenting awards to sporting achievers in the Canterbury area on Friday (January 23).

The Canterbury district sports awards are to be held at the Polo Farm sports club. The awards are organised by Sport Canterbury District and supported by the city council’s sports development team.

Great Britain international Hatton, and the chairman of the Sport Canterbury District, Cllr Pat Todd, will present awards in 11 categories, including various age categories, two team awards, and one for services to sport.

Sponsors of the event include Fenwick, Active Life, Body and Mind, University of Kent sports centre, Perry’s of Canterbury and Marks and Spencer.

City council sports development officer Nell Grigg-Spall said: “We’re looking forward to a fantastic evening, recognising the achievements of local sports people.

“It’s also an opportunity to thank all the volunteers and administrators for their help in ensuring the various clubs and associations run smoothly.”
