Lane of M2 closed after Mazda RX8 lands in tree between J5 for Sittingbourne and J6 for Faversham

13:00, 30 January 2014

A woman has been cut free by fire crews on the M2 this morning after her car mounted the embankment - and got stuck in a tree.

Emergency services were called to the coast-bound carriageway between J5 for Sittingbourne and J6 for Faversham after the red Mazda RX8 was left balancing precariously on the roadside.

Three people were in the car but the woman, in her 40s, was trapped and had to be cut out by fire crews.

She was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham with back pain, but her injuries are not life threatening.

The other two were able to leave the vehicle and were not taken to hospital.

One lane of the carriageway was closed and motorists were warned to expect delays.

Kent Police officers were still at the scene this afternoon as the car was being recovered.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We were called at 10.06am to the M2, coastbound just after the A249 sliproad (junction 5) to a single vehicle road traffic collision."

Two SECAmb ambulances and a car also attended the scene, along with the Hazardous Area Response Team.
