A low-loader truck carrying a digger crashed into a rail bridge and got stuck.
The transporter hit the crossing at Wincheap, near to Canterbury East station, early this afternoon - leading to train cancellations and the temporary closure of the A28.
Rail services between Dover and Faversham were put on hold while the vehicle was removed.
Network Rail teams also surveyed the bridge for damage before reopening the line at about 1.45pm.
The bridge, which is just off Wincheap Roundabout, is no stranger to being hit by large vehicles.
Today's incident comes just days before urgent structural surveys will be carried out at the site.
The work will force the closure of the A28 on Sunday, with no traffic being allowed under the bridge.
The route is expected to shut to be from 2am until 2pm, however it could last longer.
