Truth revealed in new sculpture
08:13, 08 October 2008
The truth will set you free, is the motto of Canterbury Christ Church University.
And it is also the title of a new stone sculpture placed outside the university’s main entrance at Old Sessions House in Longport.
Christ Church art graduate and local stone carver Chrissie Ellison’s work sits on a Portland stone base, in an 's’ shape, incorporating a hand holding a dove with its wings outstretched.
“It was a real privilege to create this work,” she said. “I used the stone to match the front facing brick of Old Sessions House and the dove symbolises the university.
“I hope staff, students and visitors get a great deal of enjoyment from this piece.”
The university commissions a new sculpture every year as part of its arts fortnight celebrations.
