A level crossing fault, which caused hours of traffic delays, has been fixed.
The barrier at Sturry railway station, near Canterbury , became stuck in the down position, causing heavy traffic on the A28 near Sturry Hill for several hours.
There were two-mile queues in the village and stretching into the city while Network Rail engineers worked on the issue.
There was also congestion in Broad Oak as drivers took alternative routes.
Kent County Council's highways team tweeted earlier: "There are reports of a problem with the level crossing which is causing significant delays in the area. Approach with caution, expect long delays."
Buses were also disrupted, with a Stagecoach spokesman saying all services in the area were subject to delays and cancellations at short notice.
The fault had been fixed by 12.30pm and traffic has since returned to normal.
