Police warning after spike in Canterbury car thefts

A spike in car thefts and vandalism in Canterbury has led police issue a warning to drivers.
More than 20 incidents in which windows have been smashed and bags, wallets, cards and cash stolen, were reported in the space of four days between Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1.
The thefts have occurred in a number of roads in and around the city, including The Paddock, Cambrai Court, Castle Row, Barton Road, Spring Lane, Military Road, Hawks Lane and Nunnery Fields.
Sergeant Colette Todd, from the Canterbury Community Safety Unit, has urged drivers to keep their valuables secure.
"We are urging motorists to be vigilant and not to give thieves any opportunities," she said.
"Make sure cars are locked and all valuables are removed when unattended."
Residents are also advised not to leave anything on display in a car, no matter how small, and to always park in a garage, secure car park or well-lit area.
Last December frustrated motorists were left counting the cost after falling victim to a car window smashing spree that left dozens of vehicles damaged.
