One of Canterbury’s busiest roads will be shut this weekend as work to repair a railway bridge is carried out - meaning drivers will have to dramatically change their routes in and out of the city.
The A28 turn-off from Wincheap roundabout, which divides Pin Hill and Rhiems Way, will be closed from 11.30pm on Saturday until 4am on Monday.
Motorists heading out of the city into Wincheap, or vice-versa, will be unable to drive between Gordon Road and the large Wincheap roundabout.
The official diversions set to be enforced tally up to several miles for such a short stretch of road being closed.
Drivers heading out of Canterbury towards Ashford are advised to divert back down Pin Hill, onto New Dover Road and onto the A2 before getting off at the next junction and heading northbound up the dual carriageway to the Wincheap turn-off.
Meanwhile, those heading into Canterbury are advised to join the London-bound A2 at Wincheap, and head up to Dunkirk before doubling back and getting off at the Harbledown off-slip before making their way into the city and onto Rhiems Way.
