Wife Natasha Neame facing tragedy has one last vow of courage

00:01, 04 April 2016

A 27-year-old woman with terminal cancer will renew her wedding vows earlier than planned after doctors revealed she has only six months to live.

Brave Natasha Neame, of Lancaster Gardens, Beltinge, has been dealt the devastating blow after previously being told she had five years left.

Now, after two rounds of failed chemotherapy, she has been forced to move her renewal ceremony to April – five months sooner than intended.

She said: “We have had to move it to April as my first chemotherapy did not respond and the second one made me poorly.

“I was told last month I am probably looking at six months – it’s not as long as I expected because the growth spread and it’s progressing. Nothing is slowing it down or stopping it.

“There is no other treatment that I can really go for. We are at the point now where moving it forward would be better.”

Natasha, who was diagnosed with rare adrenal cancer after her wedding in 2014, has set up a JustGiving page to raise £1,500 to fund the renewal ceremony.

She has raised £345 so far and will renew her vows next month with husband Nick, 54, at the Judd’s Folly Hotel in Faversham.

She said: “Six months is what they say, but I don’t want to say I have got six months.

“It’s horrible, and, as every week passes, it’s really hard. I like to think I keep positive – I like to think I have got a year, at least.”

Natasha, who married former account clerk Nick in 2014, is now living under full-time care from her husband.

She is also suffering from secondary liver cancer.

She had her adrenal gland and tumour removed in January last year, before later undergoing two further operations.

She added: “There is no other treatment that I can really go for.

“It’s questionable whether it is worth sending me for trials when I should be enjoying what I have.

“There is a trial in Leeds, but that would mean I would have to go up there every week and I am tired and drained and don’t want to do that.”

Despite the setback, Natasha says she is grateful for the support she has received.

She said: “We have been really lucky. It’s for the wrong reasons but it’s still very nice to have people thinking of you; it makes you feel very special. While I am well it’s important to renew my vows and I am so excited to get everyone together.”

Natasha has a JustGiving page for people to donate to help pay for the ceremony, and says any money left over will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.
