Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene after the victim was discovered just after 6.50am.

The man was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

It was initially not known how he came by his injuries.

But following inquiries, police now believe the man was a pedestrian who was struck by a black BMW at about 6.45am.

The vehicle was not at the scene when police arrived, but a woman was arrested on Monday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

She has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Inquiries are ongoing and Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the area at that time and has dashcam footage that may assist their investigation.

"Witnesses should call the SCIU appeal line on 01622 798 538 or email investigators at sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference HW/DGC/13/22."
