"Who in their right mind would take a young baby to a show without consideration for other people?"

This is the view of one Marlowe Theatre customer who has spoken out against a couple who were accompanied by a child - thought to be less than six months old - at a Saturday night showing.

The 54-year-old from Deal - who has asked not to be named - says she paid £49.50 to watch We Will Rock You at the Canterbury venue last night.

But she and her party of six was put off by the noises being made by the young child only a few rows in front of them.

She has told KentOnline: "Surely this was not right. I've got grandchildren and I would never have dreamt of taking them.

"During the show the baby made a few noises and at one stage when a girl was singing, all you could hear was the baby cooing.

"It wasn't cries but it was still distracting."

The woman, who has since written to the Marlowe Theatre to complain, says her husband notified managers during the interval that a baby was in the audience.

She said: "We were initially told they were unaware of this and then we were told that they had paid for a lap seat and that there is no age limit on the show.

"I don’t want to be single minded or to be seen as acting childish, but we paid good money to see this fantastic show.

"Who in their right mind would take a young baby to a show without consideration for other people?"

The customer believes the couple must have realised their mistake or been asked to leave during the interval as they did not return for the second half.

But she has also questioned the theatre's policy on children.

She said: "It was irresponsible of the parents but also stupid for the Marlowe to let a baby in.

"The baby had earphones on but anyone who has seen the show will know how loud the music is.

"Does this mean we can now all book seats and take a child on our lap?"
