X Factor rejects Only the Young have denied reports they criticised the show for cramping their style.
The four-member group, voted off on Saturday night, sent a hasty Tweet following an article in a tabloid newspaper in which the band allegedly insisted “that in real life they are cool”.
The red-top quoted Charlie George, from near Canterbury, as saying: “We’re not kids' entertainers, we’re musicians.”
But the band has since Tweeted: “We don’t know where this came from.”
According to The Sun, the group members, who had been mentored by judge Louis Walsh, said the public had not had the chance to see their true style.
The were the first of two acts sent packing at the weekend after polling the lowest number of votes from viewers.
Charlie, 17, from Chartham, is quoted as saying: “We all write, play sing and arrange and music is in our blood.”
He also says leaving the show will allow the band to show their creative side, claims The Sun.
“We are musicians and we want to go out there and be cool and credible. And now we’ve got a little bit more freedom that will really come across.”
But according to the band’s subsequent tweet members are more than happy with their X Factor treatment.
“We loved our time on the X Factor,” it said. “We’re so grateful and so excited for the tour.”
In The Sun’s article, Charlie also backs fellow contestant Stevi Ritchie to win, and defends him from criticism from viewers, including footballer Wayne Rooney.
“Everyone who is here right now deserves to be here as much as the next person and I would never hold it against anyone,” Charlie is quoted as saying.
“As a band we absolutely bloody love Stevi – he’s such an incredible performer and so dedicated. Stevi genuinely doesn’t have a bad side.”
The band were unavailable for comment about The Sun’s article.
