Tammy Beaumont looking forward to taking on South Africa at Canterbury
06:00, 01 June 2018
Tammy Beaumont is hoping to see a big crowd turn out to cheer on the England Women’s team when they take on South Africa Women at The Spitfire Ground St Lawrence.
The One-Day International match is taking place in Canterbury on Friday, June 15 with Kent skipper Beaumont and Laura Marsh contenders for a starting place in the team.
Beaumont has played 50 ODI’s for England, at an average of 38.21, and was part of the 2017 World Cup winning team.
The Dover-born batsman said: “I’ve played for England at Canterbury once before in a T20 but it’s really exciting to play at Kent because I grew up watching the boys since I was 10 years old and remember having a schools competition on the outfield so it’s always a special place to come back to.
“Over the last few years we’ve played a few games for Kent there so I know the surface quite well and looking forward to taking on South Africa down there.
“Women’s cricket has had quite a lot of success down at Canterbury and there’s normally a good crowd there. Hopefully we will go well at Canterbury and have those good memories to build on as well.
“I’d love to see Canterbury packed out. I’ve seen what it’s like for the men’s T20 games and seen how great the atmosphere is for those games and it would be great to have that for us. I don’t think that’s too unrealistic as I’ve heard a lot of people saying they are bringing their kids down.
“I really hope a lot of people can come down and show their support as we are taking on a very tough South African team. It should be a good game.”

Tickets for the match are £15 for adults and £1 for under-16s. There is a Primary Schools Tournament taking place at Simon Langton Girls School on the morning of the game with all children and teachers getting free entry to the match.
Beaumont said: “We want to play good games of cricket and win World Cups but on a broader scale we want to inspire the next generation to pick up a bat and ball.
“Some girls who come down to Canterbury will either not have played much or not at all and one day may be where we are. There’s no better time to be involved in women’s cricket.”
The 27-year-old has scored 261 runs for Kent in four Royal London One-Day County Championship games this season at an average of 130.5.
Beaumont added: “I feel pretty good at the minute and have been going okay for Kent.
“I’ve contributed to a couple of wins, which has been good, and hopefully I can take that into the South Africa series. They have a really strong bowling attack and I’m really looking forward to it.”
