Megan Belt claimed her 100th wicket for Kent in their defeat against Hampshire in the Royal London One-Day County Championship on Sunday.

They were beaten by three wickets in the match played at Andover to make it back-to-back losses.

The game was decided in the final over with former Kent star Charlotte Edwards hitting the winning runs.

Head coach Lydia Greenway said: “Megan Belt has been a brilliant player for us over the years. She just goes about her business and is one of our more undervalued players.

“For her to pick up that 100th wicket is a really special occasion for her and thoroughly deserved.

“It was a good game. We always knew that we didn’t post enough up front getting 148 all out.

“We knew that we had to bowl and field well, which the girls did, but unfortunately at the end Hampshire got a partnership together.”

Kent were bowled out for 148 with overseas player Arlene Kelly top-scoring with 30.Opener Phoebe Franklin made 29.

There were two wickets each for Belt (2-19), Grace Gibbs (2-13) and Alice Davidson-Richards (2-28) as Hampshire made it home with three wickets to spare.

Opener Charlie Dean top scored with 73 and Edwards hit 25 not out to give them the win.

Kent were missing England players Tammy Beaumont and Laura Marsh who were playing in a warm-up game for the national side.

Greenway said: “It’s always disappointing when we lose our England players. You want the county competition to be the best against the best.

“When everyone is playing and everyone is available the county competition is an extremely high quality and high standard of cricket. So I think that is disappointing for the competition.

“For the team, it goes without saying how much we miss them.

“We have to take positives from that and it meant people like Chelsea Rowson could open the batting for us and took on that opportunity brilliantly.

“Phoebe Franklin has really taken her opportunity and hopefully that can continue with our youngsters standing up for us.”

Kent have two fixtures over the Bank Holiday weekend both away, at Nottinghamshire on Sunday, and Warwickshire on Monday.
