Sam Billings believes overseas stars will fire Kent to T20 success

06:00, 05 July 2018

Sam Billings has backed all three of Kent’s overseas signings for the T20 Blast to be a success.

Adam Milne is available for all the matches while Carlos Brathwaite will play the first four and Marcus Stoinis the final nine games.

Milne returns to the club for a second season after suffering an injury in 2017 that meant he only played in seven matches.

Billings said: “Everyone at the club saw what a huge asset Adam Milne was last year. He’s very similar to Matt Henry in terms of his demeanor. They are very competitive and great blokes both on and off the field.

“He’s highly skilled in that format of the game. Raw pace and can bat as well. It’s great to have him back and it’s great to have that continuity.”

Carlos Brathwaite will play in the matches against Surrey (Friday), Somerset (Sunday) and Gloucestershire (Wednesday) and then at Beckenham against Hampshire (Friday, July 13).

Billings said: “I’ve had the pleasure of playing with him and against him. It’s far better playing with him.

“Carlos is a brutal striker of the cricket ball and his bowling is hugely improved. He bowls the tough overs as well so it’s great to have that from a captaincy point of view.”

Marcus Stonins played four matches for the Kent 2nds in 2012 where he hit two centuries and averaged 82.5 with the bat.

Billings said: “It helped that I was playing against Marcus (in Australia) and took him for a dinner. He had a few offers and I said there’s no chance he was going anywhere else other than Kent considering he played for the second team a few years ago.”
