Danny Lawrence would love to manage Herne Bay one day - but remains committed to Canterbury City for now.

Popular ex-Bay midfielder Lawrence is among those to be linked with becoming Kevin Watson’s successor after the Winch’s Field club suffered Isthmian Premier relegation.

But Lawrence remains focused on helping City bounce back from their own relegation from the Southern Counties East Premier Division.

“I’ve seen it banded around,” the 35-year-old said.

“It’s a club really close to my heart. It’s where I played most of my career.

“It’s a club I would love to manage at some point but, with where the club has been, they maybe need someone more experienced.

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t interested. But I owe Canterbury a lot and want to bring a bit of longevity there to try and stabilise them a little bit.

“Hopefully, the planning [for a new stadium in Canterbury] can go in at the end of the year and we can bring a bit of stability. It’s just a case of keeping some stability and adding a bit of quality.

“But even in Division 1, there’s some good teams around.”

While City have lost a couple of players due to their relocation to groundshare at Margate, having spent last term at Sittingbourne, most of last season’s squad are expected to stay.

One player yet to commit to stay, though, is Henry Arnold who finished the campaign in stunning goalscoring form.

“There’s a bit of interest in Henry Arnold,” revealed Lawrence. “He was our top scorer.

“I would love him to stay but he has some very good offers.

“It’s a sign of how far we have come that he has been offered some silly money and even is considering staying.

“If we can add quality around him, there’s no reason he cannot continue that run if he stays.

“Hopefully Henry’s one that I will be able to keep.”
