Canterbury finished their National 2 South campaign on a high by recording their biggest win of the season at home to Clifton.

The city club ran-in seven tries in a 48-5 success to finish 11th in the table, five points outside the top-eight and seven clear of Lydney who finished third-bottom and in the final relegation spot.

The city club made light of a string of injuries, despite falling behind to a catch and drive try from the visitors’ Rhys Luckwell in the early stages.

The hosts rallied to lead by 17 points at the break with the dominance of their pack paving the way, generating possession which the backs exploited ruthlessly.

Wing Mason Rosvall registered a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to a team-leading 20, while there were two scores for Connor Wallace-Sims.

Rosvall put the hosts on the board after 20 minutes with a defence-splitting burst and minutes later full-back Ollie Best was given space to tear away before finding Wallace-Sims to finish.

The third try came two minutes before the break through prop Alex Wake-Smith after a surging catch and drive from the pack.

Tom Best slotted two conversions and a penalty to widen the gap and the game was all-but up for the Bristol side at the start of the second half after two tries in five minutes from the city club.

Rosvall grabbed his second after a pacy break out wide and then turner provider for Wallace-Sims’ second try.

Stiff defence kept the score in check for a while but a sixth try arrived through a pushover, with Adam Cathcart getting the final touch, and Rosvall had the final word in the dying seconds as he strolled through a gap, leaving Best a simple conversion to complete the haul.
