Canterbury stage late show
00:00, 15 November 2007
Canterbury 34 Luton 24
CANTERBURY relied on a last minute converted try to seal victory, earn a welcome bonus point and claim third place in National 3 South on Saturday.
For the neutral spectator a game which featured seven tries and entered the final 10 minutes with the scores level at 24-24 was a feast.
Sam Rasch’s 73rd minute penalty goal, awarded for a high tackle, and Gert De Kock’s late touch down were needed to see off lowly Luton.
After dominating a first half in which they created several excellent chances but turned only two of them into tries from Miles Littlechild and Wessel Wolmarans the City club reached the interval clearly in control and leading 17-3.
The visitors struck from deep only five minutes into the half but De Kock scored his first after 54 minutes to extend the lead.
Luton added two more scores to level matters in the final minutes before the Canterbury late-show secured a nail-biting win.
