CANTERBURY Rugby Club began their National League 3 South season in convincing style with a 43-13 victory over Bridgwater & Albion.

The side scored six tries and a maximum five league points as they found life surprisingly easy against their Somerset visitors.

Both sides scored an early penalty and it was prop Jamie Forsyth who registered Canterbury’s first try of the new campaign on 15 minutes.

A second penalty for Albion was as good as it got for them and Nicky Woodbridge’s try put Canterbury further ahead.

Wessel Wolmarans was kicking well and helping to keep the points total ticking over.

Neil Meyer profited next, after Chris Hinkins brought off an excellent line-out steal, and before the break fly-half Gert de Kock skipped over for his side’s fourth try.

Albion hooker Matt Hastie was yellow carded and Pat Sykes punished the sin-binning by scoring try number five.

Wolmarans finished off a fine display with a try and Canterbury were well in the clear before the visitors scored a converted effort.
