CANTERBURY Hockey Club's under-13 girls will represent Kent in the East of England finals of the National Mini tournament in March. The side clinched the county seven-a-side tournament title with an excellent display at Polo Farm.
They now move onto Norwich on Sunday, March 17, where they will bid for a place in the national finals in Cannock in May.
At Polo, Canterbury started the morning session well with good wins against Weald of Kent and Beckenham. In the Tunbridge Wells match they were extended by a strong and well organised side and only gained a 2-2 draw with a last-minute strike.
They upped their performance for their remaining pool games and came away with wins over Simon Langton, Burnt Ash and Kent College. As winners of their section, Canterbury met Sevenoaks in the semi-final and were held to a draw, before they won through in the penalty shoot-out.
They met old rivals Bromley in the final and Canterbury took the initiative with an early goal. Bromley fought hard, but Canterbury held on to claim the county crown.
Squad: Ashleigh Todd (goalkeeper), Cassie Farbrace, Abigail Knight,. Charlotte Fowle, Georgina Kemsley, Jenny Field, Emma Wilson, Gaby Conradie.
