Canterbury City boss Clive Cook has clarified Sid Sollis’ position at the club after the forward’s apparent departure earlier this week.

It was reported that the former Margate striker had signed for Sittingbourne having only joined Canterbury at the end of August.

Sollis, however, remains part of the Canterbury set-up and will be still be at Cook’s disposal at stages this season.

Cook said: “He hasn’t left, he’s still on our registration.

“He needed to play but he needed to start every game, Sid needs that. I felt Sittingbourne was the right move.”

He added: “I couldn’t start him in front of my other two and I thought the best way to go was to let him get some game time.

“I’ve got an agreement with their manager that if I need him and he doesn’t need him that I can pull him in.”

“He got a brace last night (Tuesday, against VCD) so it’s a good start for him.”

Canterbury sit third in Southern Counties East after extending their unbeaten league run to eight games with a 1-1 draw against Lordswood on Tuesday.

“We were saying after the game that I’m quite happy with where we’re at at the moment,” added Cook.

“I’m well aware that people have got games in hand but looking at the games, Corinthian drew at Bearsted who I think are a good side so it’s all over the place.

“I think that's where this league has got better, people have put more quality into their squads. To get a point at Lordswood, I'll take it.

“I'm happy with the squad. I think when you get to October and November you can start sorting out what you can do.

“This is a crucial time to pick up points, I feel like Tuesday's point will be an important one come the end of the season.”

This followed up Saturday's 2-1 victory over Erith & Belvedere, in which Cook was left wanting more when it came to his side taking their chances.

He explained: “If we take our chances we'll give a team a hammering, it's all about that again.

“We played 1-0 and were absolutely cruising, we had lots of chances and their keeper was playing well.

“In the second half they played well, I was impressed with them to be honest and then we scored in the 89th minute.

“This is what we're finding out, it's a very tough league and a tougher league to get out of than the league above I think.

“There's not a lot of difference in the teams.

“We're missing a lot of chances. On one hand I'm saying it's not so bad because we're creating chances, on the other hand I'm worrying they'll come back to bite us if we don't take them.”

City are next in action at home to Glebe in the Kent Senior Trophy on Wednesday.
