Kent all-rounder Fabian Cowdrey is leaving the club by mutual consent.

The 24-year-old came through the Kent Cricket Academy and joined the professional staff in 2011 before going on to make his debuts in all formats in 2013.

His last game came against Gloucestershire at Bristol on July 8 with him rushed to hospital for emergency appendix surgery the following week.

Cowdrey said: “I’d like to thank all those team members and coaching staff who believed in me and offered me support in my toughest times at the Club.

"I wish all the supporters, Matt Walker and the players all the best for the future."

Fabian is the third generation of the Cowdrey family, after father Chris, uncle Graham and grandfather Colin to play for Kent.

He admitted: "It was not an easy decision for me and I am sad to be leaving Kent, but I believe for the club and for my own well-being it is the right time to leave.

"I was proud to have followed in the footsteps of my father and grandfather and play for my home county.”

Cowdrey scored seven half-centuries and took 34 wickets in 60 white ball appearances for the club while he added two half-centuries in 16 County Championship matches for Kent.

Chairman of cricket Graham Johnson: “We always knew about his batting but his bowling has developed into a useful attribute in the shorter formats.

"It is sad to see him go and he leaves with our best wishes.”
